Ella's new friend

Ella made a new friend today...Aunt Lori's stuffed penguin. She had a great time telling the penguin all about herself...Here is a short video of their conversation!

Doctor's visit and new video

Ella has been taking zantac for about a week for refulx. She began to spit up a lot more and not have hardly any dirty diapers. The doc had us come in and switched her medicine, hopefully this one will work. On another note she is now "talking" when she plays or interacts with us. Here is a video...it takes a minute to get to the talking part, but she does eventually start to babble on!

Easter

Today was a big day. Ella met the Easter Bunny for the first time. She couldn't stop staring at him and they had a hard time getting her to face the camera. She didn't cry with the bunny, but did when the camera lady squeaked a toy in her face. Her pictures turned out great and it was a nice first for our new family!

Ella's newest trip to the doctor...

We took Ella to her new doctor today. We decided a peditrician was going to be a better fit with us. A friend uses her and loves her so we decided to try her. She was wonderful! We found out that Ella has reflux, which can make her cranky and cause the white chunky goo to come out of her mouth. We hope the medicine will help and that she will feel better. She has been sleeping a lot today so we hope she is on the mend!

Six Weeks

Ella is offically six weeks old. She is very alert and loves to play. She has a big personality and smiles often. She is starting to "talk". When she is playing she coos and yells at her toys. We think she is telling them about her day. She has also been a bit cranky. Billy and I have decided that Ella needs a pediatrician rather than a family doctor. We feel they will be a bit more in tune to what a newborn needs and what concerns new parents go through. We are meeting her today. Our friend, who will watch Ella when Lisa goes back to work, takes her daughter to the same doctor and feels that she is great.

We survived

It has been a very long week. Billy was in Florida on a buisness trip which meant Lisa was alone with Ella for the first time (24/7 that is!) Ella had been on antibiotics for a sinus infection...it lead to several hours of screaming and crying. A trip to Children's and stopping the antibiotic has helped and Ella is back to being happy...although she is still having some slight tummy issues. Billy came home today and was greated at the airport. He is currently holding Ella and having some snuggly time. Ella and Lisa are both very excited he is home and glad that they survived their week alone!

Video for Dad

Video of Ella that Lisa made for Billy while he is in Florida!

Ella's First Month

We can't believe how quickly things have gone. Ella is a month old. Her hair has grown and looks just like her daddy's did when he was a baby. She weighs 9 lbs 13 oz (which means she has gained 2 lbs in five weeks!) She has great head control and has since she was about two weeks old. She holds her head up to look around and at us when she is on her chest. The doctor said she is perfect. Ella was born with pustular melanosis. Its a rash that only 2% of Caucasian babies develop. It comes and goes (looks like red hives with a white center) but thankfully doesn't seem to bother her. At 2 weeks she had her first real doctors appointment for a clogged tear duct (which was healed with antibiotic ointment) at 4 weeks she had another appointment for a sinus infection. Ella sleeps fours hours at a time and gets up to eat then goes back to sleep. Around four weeks Ella smiled for the first time. She loves to lay on her play mat and play with all of the toys. She is very alert and an easy mannered baby (unless she feels ucky, then she screams...alot!)

When she was two weeks old she had her first modeling job. A friend of Lisa's does photographs and is branching out from weddings to portraits! Ella was her first baby model. The pictures are beautiful and Ella did a wonderful job! Billy left for his first business trip. Ella wasn't handling the antibiotics well and Lisa had to take her to Children's. Thankfully she is ok...and the antibiotics have been stopped.

Ella Diana Carlin

Ella Diana Carlin was born February 3rd, 2009 at 11:51 a.m. Lisa was induced late on February 2nd. Around 9 a.m. the doctor broke her water. Within a few minutes she was dilated to 4 cm and was having strong contractions that were coming a minute apart. The nurse noticed t-cells (reduction of babies heart rate) and said that the contractions were coming to hard and fast. The doctor insisted Lisa have an epidural to help reduce pain which could cause the heart rate to stay more stable. When this did not work she was given tributaline (sp could be really wrong!) to slow the contractions down, this also did not work. Dr. Hemmelgarn came in around 11:20 and said that she didn't like how the baby was doing so Lisa was taken to the OR. At 11:51 Ella came to this world with a full head of hair. She weighed 7 lbs 15 oz and was 20 inches long. Lisa recovered well and we are looking forward to spending time with our new little girl!
